Griseofulvin is an antifungal antibiotic indicated for
the treatment of ringworm in horses and dermatophytic fungal
infections (fungal infections of the hair, claws, and skin)
in dogs and cats. It has been used for similar conditions
in other animals as well. Griseofulvin is only clinically
useful against Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton
species of fungus, which are common in dermatophytic infection.
