This is an intravenous form of omeprazole that can be used in
horses, llamas, and other equine or large exotic animals with restricted oral intake. A study by Frank M. Andrews Et.Al. determined that Intravenous administration of Omeprazole may be useful
for the treatment of EGUS in horses with restricted oral
intake because of gastric reflux, such as duodenitis-proximal
jejunitis (DPJ), postoperative ileus, dysphagia, or facial
bone fractures.(see the full study here)
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce
gastric acid.
